Hello, I’m Helen Porter a Home Economist based in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. I’ve been in the food industry for more than 30 years, working full time until 1994. I now work freelance for a number of companies on a regular basis. These include one of the countries leading Food Service Companies, presenting new lines to the sales force, showcasing products to the companies clients and displaying food at Trade Exhibitions.
I am a qualified teacher of F.E. I can also teach privately and recently was involved with Widehaugh House running a practical cookery course.
Demonstrations are a speciality! I receive many requests to show groups of people how to cook! I have done literally hundreds of demonstrations over the years, some of them in unusual places, a tent for instance! This year I will be, for the fifth time, coordinating the chefs for Eldon Square’s Cook, Eat and Enjoy event.
I am also happy to assist ‘Celebrity Chefs’. I have worked with Brian Turner at the Northumbria Fine Food Festival in Gateshead, and Ken Hom at demonstrations in Fenwick Department store, Newcastle and Jenners, Edinburgh.
Recently I have also been involved with a major retailer doing some Quality Assessment work on some products.
